Hey there…Javier Ortiz back again with another Rastrac Tech Minute. Today I’d like to talk about one of our government customers and how they won a Best Practices award from the Texas Association of Counties for implementing Rastrac.

A short while back Chris Trevino from the executive office of Hidalgo County contacted Rastrac to see if he could make his fleet of vehicles more efficient by using GPS Tracking. As you might guess, our answer was yes and here’s how we help you do it…By implementing Rastrac in your fleet you will have instant visibility into every vehicle’s location and how it is being used and maintained. This alone will make your fleet safer, your drivers more conscientious, your ability to react to emergencies greater and your fleet more cost effective to run.

Hidalgo County outfitted just over 100 vehicles with Rastrac and ran the system for about six months and in that time they discovered  they were able to save around $25,000 from reduced fuel consumption, make their constables safer by knowing their location at all times, improve their vehicle lifespan by being able to schedule preventative maintenance and improve patrol coverage by better control of their vehicle routing.

After seeing the results the executive office was enjoying with Rastrac, Hidalgo County Precinct 4 Constable outfitted their 19 deputy patrol cars too. Not only were they able to cut their costs and run more efficiently, they discovered features that greatly improved their deputy and community safety. Because Rastrac allows the Constable to see where his vehicles are, at any given time, he is able to reduce the time it takes to locate a deputy’s last position if he or she has pushed the distress button on their radio. This has cut the time it takes to react to an emergency situation by many minutes and as we know, every second counts in an emergency.

Another benefit Precinct 4 takes advantage of is using Rastrac to modify driver behavior. For instance, If a deputy is speeding and driving aggressively the Constable can receive an alert in almost real-time or they can see a report card at the end of a period of time that is a composite of the driver’s behavior. With this information, the Constable can determine if an infraction is a one-time event or a bad habit of the driver. This allows the Constable to council the driver and make them much safer. And, make the driver more accountable for the vehicle’s upkeep and possibly improve the vehicle’s eventual resale value.

Hidalgo County has adopted Rastrac for all of it Precincts (4) since we first started speaking with the executive office. Let us show you the benefits of Rastrac too. Give us a call.
